The TOM TAILOR Forest
TOM TAILOR has initiated a three month pilot during which plastic and paper bags are offered for charge. Part of the cost will be donated to PrimaKlima. The money will help to plant a new forest in Northern Nicaragua. This will help local farmers generating a longterm income and extract carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
The average German buys 71 plastic bags per year. In supermarkets we have dicovered a trend to using cloth bags or even backpacks. It is yet to begin that this trend spills over to fashion stores. Whereas clients have to pay for plastic bags in supermarkets, they mostly get them for free when buying clothes.
In a rural area of Northern Nicaragua we will attempt to plant 12.000 m² of forest with the support of TOM TAILOR. For smallholder Luis Armando Sanchez Gradiz the new forest will be as effective as an insurance against the current drought, a direct consequence of an ongoing climate change. Since every single tree extracts carbon from the air, the evolving forest will also be an effective means to protect our climate.
